Penn State Go takes second place at Appademy Awards for Best Student-Driven App

Penn State Go took the second-place prize in the Best Student-Driven App category at the fourth annual Appademy Awards presented by Modo Labs, held virtually this year on June 25, 2020.

Each year, the Appademy Awards recognize the best apps in higher education, awarding those that delivered outstanding experiences to their respective campus communities. Out of 48 nominations across 10 categories, the Appademy Awards recognized Penn State Go for its focus on the student mobile experience and commitment to engage student feedback through surveys, usability, and beta testing in the app’s development.

The 2020 Appademy Awards announced winners in other categories, including Best New Student Orientation, Innovative Communication, Student Engagement, Recruiting and Admissions, Marketplace, and Best Overall Design. The other nominees in the Best Student-Driven App category were CETYS Universidad, Northern Arizona University, and Cypress College, the first-place winner.

Since its release in January 2020, Penn State Go has had more than 50,000 downloads from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The app delivers single sign-on access to all the academic needs of students, including Canvas, Penn State email, shuttle-bus tracking, campus maps, grades, class schedules, tuition bills via LionPATH, LionCash+, library services, Starfish academic advising, and much more.

From naming the app to feature enhancements, student feedback continues to play a significant role in Penn State Go’s development. Suggestions on how to improve the mobile experience can be submitted in the Penn State Go app. The app also has become a vital communication channel and resource for students to connect with technical support and stay engaged with the campus community. In mid-May, students were able to select their individual Penn State Go Commonwealth Campus Experience. Each Commonwealth Campus Experience allowed students to receive important messages to stay informed and access content specific to their selected campus, such as events, news, and safety information.
