They can easily access the main events schedule and take a detailed look at the week’s upcoming signature events. Alumni who aren’t on campus can use Penn State Go to stay connected with a livestream of Friday evening’s parade. Special Penn State-themed iMessage stickers also are available in the app for alumni to show off their Penn State pride.

“We are thrilled to have partnered with Penn State Go to develop a mobile app experience that aims to meet the needs of alumni,” said Paul Clifford, CEO of the Penn State Alumni Association. “The app complements our existing communications and makes it easier than ever to stay connected with the University. It’s a great way for alumni to keep in touch with their association and the University community.”

Penn State Go introduces the Parents and Families Experience

The Penn State Go mobile app, launched in January 2020, has introduced a parent and family-specific experience for University Park families. Families of Penn State University Park students can download the app in the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and customize their experience by selecting Change App Experience and Parents and Families.

Penn State Go, the official mobile app for Penn State, provides the Penn State community with a custom platform to access and manage University accounts, view resources, and follow special events. In addition, users can opt-in to receive push messages to stay up to date with important information.

The parents and families experience provides access to features, such as the Parent and Family Experience portal, LionPATH, LionCash+ Deposit, Penn State Maps, Dining, Penn State News, Penn State Athletics, and more. Families will find quick links to key University resources as well as links to the Penn State Parents Program website and social media accounts.

“We are thrilled to have partnered with Penn State Go and the Parents Council to develop a mobile app experience that aims to meet the needs of our parents and families. Penn State Go complements our existing communications and provides an additional way for families to connect to the University,” said Cyndy Hill, director of the Penn State Parents Program.

This fall, the parents and families experience will provide access to Parents and Families Weekend at University Park scheduled for October 8-10, 2021, including event schedules and to receive push and banner messages.

The Penn State Parents Program worked with members of the Parents Council to develop the content for the parent and families experience within the app. The content will continue to evolve based on feedback from users.

Timing is everything, but no one could have foreseen that two months after Penn State launched its official all-in-one mobile app, Penn State Go, in January 2020, the whole world would be shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With the transition into remote teaching and learning, it became ever more critical for instructors, students, and staff to stay informed and connected to what is happening at Penn State and access key university resources.

A year later, Penn State Go is celebrating a milestone achievement of more than 100,000+ downloadsShare your Penn State Spirit and help mark this momentous accomplishment by downloading the Penn State Go iMessage Sticker Packs.

Growing in popularity, users have opened the app more than 4 million times, clicking through 15 million pageviews and external links. In addition, 71,000+ users have enabled the push notifications feature in the app to receive relevant and timely messages to stay informed, including information on COVID-19 resources, travel guidelines, and much more.

Available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, Penn State Go includes many popular features such as Canvas, Penn State email, LionPATHLionCash+, library services, Starfish academic advising, Penn State Eats, and more.

When the app initially launched, students were able to curate their experience by selecting University Park, World Campus, and a unified Commonwealth Campus. Throughout the summer and fall of 2020, Penn State Go continued to make updates and improvements to enhance the mobile experience

By May 2020, students at Commonwealth Campuses were able to select their individual Penn State Go Commonwealth Campus Experience by clicking on the Change App Experience button in the app. The individual Campus Experience allowed students to receive important messages to stay connected to what is happening at their Commonwealth Campus and access events, dining, newsand safety information.

Many special events were also made accessible via Penn State Go to allow students to engage virtually, including THON 2020, Welcome Week, Class of 2024, and Penn State Homecoming, and PS I (heart) U Week

Other features added to the Student Experiences include overlays in Maps for Remote Learning Rooms on campuses, Penn State Eats for contactless ordering, live IT Support chat for technical questions, an enhanced Canvas integration, and ways to stay engaged through You@PSU and with one’s Academic Colleges.

Initially focused on the student mobile experience, the app’s development rapidly accelerated, driven in part by the pandemic and the need to extend University resources to reach the broader Penn State community.

In August 2020, the Faculty and Staff Experience was released in Penn State Go. In addition to the features available for students, faculty and staff were able to receive targeted push notifications, in-app banner messages, access Canvas Teacher, and Workday

Looking ahead, Penn State Gos goal is to provide students, faculty, staff, alumni, and campus visitors access to all their needs, including academics, student life, and resources, from anywhere, at any time.

Several new feature enhancements and integrations are underway or in testing, including location-based and personalize notifications, an Alumni Experience, and a desktop version of Penn State Go. The first iteration of the Penn State Go Desktop will focus on World Campus students, allowing access to key links to Penn State resources and services on the web.
